HomeSafe's cutting-edge infrared, acoustic and pattern recognition technologies were initially developed by HomeSafe co-owner Peng Lee as part of a USDA-funded project at the University of Mississippi's National Center for Physical Acoustics (NCPA). In the 1990s, Lee, then a NCPA research scientist, developed a powerful listening (acoustic) device (patent pending) to detect the unique sounds made by certain crop pests, such as the Caribbean fruit fly and the pink boll worm. Appointed to serve on the USDA's "Project Full Stop," a nationwide campaign to reduce America's population of Formosan termites, Lee modified his invention to detect termite sounds.
Lee later combined the acoustic technology with specially customized infrared technology, enabling inspectors to 1) detect the telltale moisture of a termite colony behind walls with infrared and; 2) confirm the termite infestation by acoustic detection and specialized pattern recognition software that recognizes only termite sounds.
HomeSafe Inspection, Inc. has since refined and customized these technologies specifically for the home and termite inspection industries.
