Infrared Images

The HomeSafe Infrared/Acoustic process uncovers hidden problems that often cannot be detected by traditional home inspection techniques. The following are a few sample images illustrating the power of infrared to "see the invisible" behind a house's walls, ceilings and floors.

This is a 125-year-old house with vinyl siding installed over the wooden eaves. The black splotches indicate moisture that has leaked into the old wood.

Notice the dark, tube-shaped pattern tracing a vertical path down the near right side of the above wall. The pattern reveals a serious moisture leak that would not be visible to the naked eye.

The white areas are actually mice tunnels surrounding a return air duct inside the walls of a child’s playroom (upstairs). These tracks would go undetected in an ordinary visual inspection.

This infrared image depicts a single wall. The white area on the right side appears as it should, but the dark area on the left betrays an “invisible” problem —that entire section of the wall has no insulation!

The large black area signifies the early stages of a water leak in the roof. This moisture can be detected only by infrared.

The dark vertical traces on the left wall are mis-aligned studs, indicating a structural problem that could not be seen in an ordinary visual inspection.

The dark area in the center of this picture resembles a termite infestation, but no termites were indicated in HomeSafe’s follow-up acoustic inspection. Further investigation showed that the anomaly was due to poorly installed insulation.

The bright, white aura is proof of an overheated dimmer switch. Note that the white line extends up the wall, which means the extreme heat is generating through the wiring. This is a potential fire hazard and can only be detected through HomeSafe’s infrared technology.

What appears to be a roof leak (in left picture) is actually due to condensation resulting from poor insulation. The white areas (in right picture) represent missing insulation where the ceiling meets the wall. The condensation is building up in this section during the wintertime.

Note the large, cotton-boll-shaped pattern in the center of this picture. This is a large nest of Formosan termites, visible only through infrared and audible only through HomeSafe’s acoustic sensors.
